As wedding planners we are often asked about our favorite moments of a wedding day, how etiquette has evolved into modern times, and how to help create a memorable and unique event for the happy couple. The team at LK Events will be tackling some of those questions in a monthly series right here on our blog. Stop by often for our ideas, thoughts, and a little about us behind the scenes!
#1 – What is your favorite moment of a wedding day?
Nicole:
It’s so cliché and more romantic than what most people think I would like, but my favorite moment of the day is witnessing the ceremony. Watching a couple publicly declare their love for each other in the presence of their family and friends is truly a remarkable experience. Out of all the people in the world, they have chosen each other as partners and to be a witness to each other’s lives. It’s truly wonderful!
Allison:
One of my favorite moments of the day comes in the final minutes before the ceremony begins. It is often the first time all day where everyone is silent and all I see around me are smiles from ear to ear – from the guests to the bridal party. Those moments when the couple is apart and anxiously awaiting the ceremony are so special and emotional, and each time it reminds me of why I love what I do. I am so humbled to be included in such a special and intimate family moment.
Jennifer:
My favorite moment is when the couple has just been announced as a married couple & they turn to recess down the aisle and they’re both grinning ear to ear. The stressful part is over and the celebrating can really begin!
Lauren:
I have so many! Hard to pick one…so I will pick two 🙂 I love the moment the couple see each other for the first time…whether it be during their first look prior to the ceremony or during the actual ceremony. There is something about them having that time before the craziness begins to really look at one another, have a few moments with one another and have a chance to just “be” together before the rest of the day continues. When it happens during the ceremony, it’s almost as if everyone disappears and it’s just the two of them. I also love when the couple walks into the reception room for the first time. It’s a moment I try to make time for during the wedding day. I love the look on their faces after months of planning and time spent on all of the details…they get to see all of their hard work come together. Just a few of the many special moments we get to experience with our couples!
#2 – What is one “little luxury” that can be added to a wedding day or social event to elevate it to the next level?
Jennifer:
Adding gorgeous chairs to a wedding day or social event would be my little luxury. Chairs can really make an impact on the the look and feel of the room.
Lauren:
I highly recommend upgrading linens and chairs. Those two items can go a long way and can dramatically change the overall look of the room. If budget won’t allow both, I would try and upgrade the chairs. I also love adding a little surprise element to the end of the evening – Late Night Food Truck, Donuts with Baileys and Coffee, Cordial and Truffle Bar – something special or a favorite of the couple that guests can enjoy as they are heading out.
Allison:
I love seeing when a couple uses their caterer to create an element that is special and unique to them. There are so many ways to express yourself as a couple through food and beverage while staying in budget. Is there a craft cocktail that you love drinking at home? Or a recipe that comes out only on the most special of occasions? Work with your caterer to customize your meal to make it all about you – your guests will love that special touch!
Nicole:
I actually recommend upgrading linens or tables over chairs and the reason is that the only time you actually see all of the chairs in a room is when the room is cleared right before all of the guests come in. Once guests are in the room, guys are putting suit or tux jackets on the chairs and women are putting pashminas or hanging purses from the chairs. The linens or custom tables are highlighted throughout the dinner and even more so when the china, flatware and glassware are cleared after dinner.
#3 – If you were going into a lip sync battle, what song would you bring?
Lauren:
Four Non Blondes – What’s Up?
Allison:
No question – Shoop by Salt N Pepa!
Nicole:
It is a close tie between “Big Poppa” from Notorious B.I.G. and “Jump Around” by House of Pain.
Jennifer:
If I were going to a lip sync battle I would bring my friend Jill & we would battle to It Takes Two by Rob Base. This has always been our song
#4 -What is the most memorable meal you have had in Chicago recently?
Nicole:
The first moment that came to mind is Tanta. It’s a newer Peruvian restaurant in River North that blew me away with their specialty cocktails and diverse and amazing menu. It also helped that I was out with Jennifer, Allison and our dear friend Emily from the Art Institute!
Jennifer:
The most memorable meal I’ve had in Chicago recently would be New Year’s Eve Dinner with Nicole at MFK Restaurant. Great company, wine and all of the food was amazing.
Allison:
I recently had dinner at Ada Street and it blew me away. My husband and I sat at the bar and got to have custom cocktails created for us while dining on some of the best brussels sprouts I have ever had! While that was definitely one of the highlights in recent months, whenever all four of us from the LK Events team are together, it is always so special with so much laughter, inspiration, and of course – wine!
Lauren:
Most recent and memorable meal in Chicago was at my favorite restaurant up the street from my old condo, Frasca. Good food, good wine, great service and many memories of our city days.
