Winter Wonderland at Chicago History Museum, Emily & Kyle

When I first met Emily, she had a wonderful inspiration for her wedding at Chicago History Museum. With almost a year to plan this wedding, we met frequently to review her planning timeline and have me answer any questions and provide referrals for her team of event professionals. It is during those moments that a friendship blossomed and I was so honored to help her and Kyle plan the most perfect winter wonderland wedding.

Emily has an elegant sense of style and that came through in her choice of a wedding gown and the exquisite bridesmaid dresses. So divine! Emily and Kyle fell in love with Timothee & Bethany Tabailloux and this husband & wife duo thoughtfully chose items to include in detail photos and carefully orchestrated the stunning First Look on Ava Terrace at the Public Hotel. All of these photos are picture perfect. Emily loved the work from Stems and Allison did not disappoint in bringing Emily’s vision to life. From the second greenery bouquet that we could use outdoors, to the adorable chair wreaths, not one detail was missed in this beautiful winter design.

There are some weddings that seem to run like clockwork, and Emily and Kyle had that day. There was excitement during the hours of getting ready, but once the couple and their wedding party arrived at the Chicago History Museum, you could tell they were ready for a wonderful celebration. The excitement of the snow falling just added to the joy of the day. Emily & Kyle had a very thoughtful ceremony that included a reading from Scripture, an excerpt from Hamilton, and a quote they hold near and dear. I also loved that they chose to process into more traditional music and then used a contemporary piece for their recessional to bring the guests into cocktail hour.

Guests noshed on passed hors d’oeuvres of deviled eggs and spicy shrimp corn dogs and then enjoyed their meal of either braised beef short rib or Lake Superior trout, courtesy of Food For Thought. The treat from Elysia Root Cakes was a double chocolate and vanilla bean cake with chocolate fudge and salted caramel buttercream filling. Absolutely marvelous! Emily and Kyle spent the rest of the evening dancing the night away to the musical talents of Time Chicago…with only a small break to pose for the dazzling snowy night photo.

Congratulations, Emily & Kyle! I wish you all the happiness in the world!

A little note from the couple:

Thank you so much for being an instrumental part of our wedding planning and execution! You were a joy to work with and it was so lovely getting to know you over the past year! We truly don’t know what we would have done without you – you perfectly brought our vision to life. We have received so many compliment son you and your team – our guests were very impressed with the seamless and beautiful day.

The University Club of Chicago, Allison & Matt

Allison and her bridesmaids got ready in the Presidential Suite at the Blackstone Hotel.  After hair and make up completed, Allison put on her Vera Wang gown and saw her father for the first time.  It was such a beautiful moment and we love when our couples get to spend special moments with their parents before heading out for photos.  Allison and her bridesmaids met the groomsmen and Matt for the couple’s first look and additional bridal party photos around the city before the ceremony took place at Old St. Pat’s.

Allison carried a stunning organic hand tied bouquet of garden roses, peonies, ranunculus and vibernum.  Her bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the bridal bouquet with accents of pale and deep green.  Guests were greeted by a stunning escort card display of dramatic bells of Ireland and blooming bridal veil in a footed urn.  We covered the table with moss and duvalia ferns and placed the escort cards in antique silver trays, provided by the bride’s parents.

The guest tables were decorated with three different designs in a lush variety of height and texture.  Stems used lush boxwood, camellia, ferns and hanging amaranthus to complete this garden inspired summer wedding. Allison and Matt sat at a gorgeous sweetheart table that was adorned with a laurel and bay leaf wreath, organic boxwood and an abundance of pillar candles.

Allison and Matt surprised their parents with a personalized note that was at their place settings when their parents sat down for dinner.  It was such a special moment watching both parents read these notes from their children before dinner was to start.  We love touches like this one!

Larry King kept the dance floor packed all night long and Gerber and Scarpelli and Wedding Masterpiece were there to capture it all!  As they celebrate their first anniversary next week, we are thinking of you both and wishing you nothing but love, laughter and happily ever after!  Congrats Allison and Matt!

Sara & Jon, Cafe Brauer

Whenever people ask me if I love my job, my answer is always yes – because of couples like Sara and Jon. This couple is filled with so much love, energy, and warmth that it always puts a smile on my face when I think of our time spent planning. Even before getting engaged, Sara and Jon developed a love for Café Brauer. Walking past it daily gave them both an appreciation for the architecture and beauty of the building, so it was only natural that they decided to start their lives as Mr and Mrs there!

I am always so excited when I get to work with a groom who is as enthusiastic about planning as his bride to be, and that was the case with Jon. We started the wedding weekend off right with a fun and lively rehearsal dinner in the clubroom of their apartment building overlooking Lincoln Park. Jon was very excited to plan this evening with lots of Chicago touches for so many out of town friends and family. We had gorgeous farm tables adorned with décor designed by the brides sister and a Taco Bar courtesy of a favorite restaurant for Sara and Jon – Big Star. It was a great way to get everyone excited for the wedding celebration the following day.

Ruby The Fox set the stage with a custom designed suite honoring Sara’s love for pink and gold tones and her modern vision for the day. The signage was highlighted with lush florals gorgeously designed by Stems Chicago. The room was filled with soft pink garden roses, peonies, black and white anemones, ranunculus and lots of lush greenery to warm the space in Café Brauer and highlight the architecture. Sara was surprised by her students the week of her wedding with long strands of paper cranes, which her students learned were symbols for peace and to grant wishes for the recipient. We used them to adorn the archway where Sara and Jon got to say their vows – so sweet!

Dabble Me This expertly captured every moment of the day and Toast & Jam kept the dance floor packed all night long. I am so happy for Sara and Jon on their marriage and even happier that I get to call them friends. Congrats to you, S+J!

Blair & Rob, Chicago History Museum

Even though a couple’s wedding day is nothing about me, there are some couples that just bring me so much joy and laughter. This was the case with the stunning Blair and debonair Rob. Our journey together in planning their wedding was filled with fun and continually crossing off items on our To-Do lists!

When our team arrived at Public Chicago on the morning of the wedding, Blair and her ladies and her mom were in the midst of all of their beauty appointments with Lauren Logan and Brian Sutherby. There was much excitement in the air and soon we were putting Blair into her wedding dress. It was a very special moment as this was her mother’s wedding dress and doesn’t she look stunning? We then brought up Rob to have a look at his bride and their moments were absolutely priceless.

Rob, Blair and their Wedding Party then left with Taylor Lord for some fun photos around Chicago! We then joined up with them again at the Chicago History Museum for a few more photos until guests began arriving. Allison from Stems completely transformed the South Gallery with beautiful large arrangements with lush floral, branches, foliage and vines. This is definitely one of our favorite ceremony set-ups! When guests entered the room they were greeted with Ginger Rosemary Lemonade and lovely prelude music from artistrings.

Rev. Dave Angle performed a lovely ceremony for Blair and Rob and soon we had guests out on the Plaza for the Cocktail Hour. It was a beautiful July day and guests enjoyed the Specialty Cocktail of Bees Knees and hors d’oeuvres like Ahi Tuna on a Lotus Root Chip and Chile Rubbed Chicken in a Crispy Wonton. While guests mingled and congratulated Blair and Rob, the North and South Gallery was transformed into an elegant summer evening reception. From the ivory shantung linens to the fruitwood versaille chairs and the stunning centerpieces, the room was a perfect picture of elegance.

Blair and Rob chose for just the two of them to be introduced into the room for dinner and both of their fathers provided a short speech before dinner was served. The meal that evening featured Blair’s recipe for Blue Cheese Grits alongside a duet of Flat Iron Steak and Pan Seared Chicken. The guests absolutely devoured it all! But there was still room for some delicious Red Velvet Cake from Amy Beck Cake Design. Then to top off the celebration of Blair and Rob, the Gold Coast All Stars kept all of the guests on their feet all night. What a wonderful evening and congratulations to Blair & Rob!

PS – Please check out some of Blair’s thoughts on her wedding and follow her at The Fox & She.

Kirstin & Maurin, The Racquet Club of Chicago

Kirstin and Maurin met working together here in Chicago. Maurin is originally from France and when they got engaged, they knew they wanted an intimate setting that would be comfortable for their out of town guests, especially Maurin’s family. The Racquet Club of Chicago is so warm and intimate; it’s the perfect setting for a November wedding.

Kirstin and Maurin saw each other for the first time on their wedding day, at the outdoor terrace of The Public Hotel.  It was chilly (but nothing like todays weather!) and Amanda of Amanda Hein Photography captured beautiful images of them on the terrace with their bridal party.  They then went off to take pictures around Chicago before making their way to The Racquet Club of Chicago for family photos and the wedding ceremony.

Kirstin carried a gorgeous tear drop shaped bouquet of lush floral in shades of white, cream and champagne with hints of lavender and soft foliage.  We adorned the guest tables with textural arrangements in white and champagne spray roses, hydrangeas and touches of foliage.  We used an abundance of candles and mercury glass to dress the tables.

Scratch Weddings provided the entertainment for the evening and guests had a blast dancing the night away in the library.  We had the perfect wedding weekend for this darling couple.  You can see it in the images; they are so in love!  Thank you, Kirstin and Maurin, for letting LK Events be a part of your day!

Andrea & Mike, Chicago History Museum

Andrea and I went to college together, so of course I was so excited when she asked me to help plan her wedding. Andrea and Mike chose the Chicago History Museum for their wedding reception and their ceremony was held at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago.

Andrea and her bridesmaids got ready on the wedding morning at Public Hotel in the heart of the gold coast. This iconic landmark is decorated in a “no color” palette making it a perfect backdrop for photographing any bride. Andrea looked stunning in the lobby photos Kris Kasperek captured and her and Mike were able to spend some time back at the hotel post ceremony to get more shots there.

The bride’s mom designed and created her bolero and also created personalized fur stoles for each of the bridesmaids. I loved them so much I have had Andrea’s Mom create them for other clients of ours! They are gorgeous!

Andrea carried a bouquet of peach Juliette garden roses with ivory Polo and white Majolika roses. We decorated the guest tables with silver footed bowls filled with lush mounds of Juliette roses, white hydrangea and peach peonies. Skyline kept the party going all night long! Congrats on coming up on your one year anniversary Andrea and Mike!

Kate & John, The University Club of Chicago

I had the absolute pleasure of growing up with Kate and our parents are dear friends.  When they called me to plan their wedding, needless to say, I was ecstatic!  Kate and John chose The University Club for their fall reception and was a perfect venue for their October nuptials.  Kate grew up going to many events at The University Club and it was also where her aunt was married so it held a very special place in their hearts.

Kate and John knew they wanted a very unique but classic and elegant look and Allison at Stems created that for them.  Kate carried white and ivory garden roses with white mums while the bridesmaids wearing classic black, carried petite nosegays of white garden roses and stock.  The escort cards were placed on a bed of fresh sheet moss with a focal arrangement of tall willow branches and hanging candles in a vase wrapped in fresh birch bark.  We carved the couple’s initials in the birch bark.  The guest tables had different lanterns (many of which the bride provided) and we used pillar candles, fresh moss, succulent blossoms, white mums, birch bark and willow branches.  We adorned the branches with hanging candles so we had amber candlelight throughout the cozy room.

We had a beautiful October day for Kate and John’s Wedding.  Kate got dressed at her parents home and we took photos outside after Kate put her wedding dress on.  Kate and her parents took a classic vintage Rolls Royce to The University Club, where she and John had their first look.  The couple then headed around Chicago with Chad Husar of Husar Photography while he captured some great shots of them and the bridal party.  We had such an incredible wedding day for this sweet couple.  Chris Sarlas, of Sarlas Music, kept the party going all night long; it was a blast!!

Sara & John, SAIC Ballroom

It was such an honor to work with Sara and John in coordinating their wedding last Fall. This was a couple who has been together for 8 years and on their wedding day it was amazing to see the love they feel for one another. During their wedding day I caught them just looking at each other and you could tell they felt like they were the only two people in the room. It was amazing to witness that!

Sara and John had a specific vision for their wedding day – stress free and classic. When I first met with them they were beginning to stress out about the logistics of their wedding day. With most of their families coming to Chicago from out of town, they were really looking for someone to be an advocate for their families. Logistics is a forte of LK Events and we were easily able to work together to put their mind at ease.

When LK Events arrived at the Palmer House Hilton on their wedding day, we were amid the most calm wedding party that we had ever seen. Of course there was excitement for Sara and John, but this really was a group of family and friends that enjoyed being with each other. From their First Look to The First Dance, Colin Lyons captured all the details and amazing moments of the day. Sara and John had their first look at the Art Institute – aren’t they the cutest couple!?!

After the beautiful ceremony at Holy Family Church, everyone made their way to the School of the Art Institute Ballroom for the reception. Stems did a beautiful job bringing Sara and John’s vision to fruition and the room had a proper elegance about it. The tall candelabras were my favorite! Guests were treated to the culinary delights from Kenmare Catering, including a four-course meal featuring Halibut and Beef Tenderloin. After dinner, Sara, John, and all of their guests hit the dance floor with the Peter Hennes Orchestra. Many guests took advantage of the flip flops and sunglasses and stayed on the dance floor all night celebrating Sara and John’s wedding day! Congratulations again to Sara & John!

Alissa & Ryan, The Ivy Room

I had so much fun working with Alissa and Ryan. Their wedding was gorgeous – as you can tell from the photos, and they were just a joy to be around. Alissa knew she didn’t want a traditional wedding after we booked the Ivy Room for her reception. She and Ryan had friends coming in from all over the country. Since the majority of her guests were their friends, they wanted a party – which not only meant an open bar all evening, but great food, fun stations (thanks to Food For Thought) and a fabulous DJ. Stems created beautiful centerpieces on the mix of tables set up and Frost brought in gorgeous chandeliers and up lighting. Avery House captured this day beautifully!

We started at the Elysian (now Waldorf) Hotel, where Alissa and her bridesmaids got ready and we were able to take some incredible photos there before the ceremony. Alissa and Ryan were married at St. Mike’s – one of my absolute favorite churches in this city and even though they were in the middle of a renovation; you couldn’t tell, thanks to Stevi and Matt’s incredible footage of their wedding day. One of the most memorable parts of this day, was when Alissa and Ryan’s golden retriever came to the Ivy Room to join them for photos – it was so much fun! We had such a fun wedding day, for such a fun couple!
