Morgan Manufacturing, Brooke & Andrew

Planning Brooke and Andrew’s wedding was one of the highlights of my career. I knew the moment Brooke and her mom called, that we were going to have so much fun together…and be lifelong friends. Brooke is one of the most sincere women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. With Brooke’s impeccable sense of style and (her mom) Sheri’s flawless taste in finding the perfect details to tie everything together, we created a magical experience for their guests.

After meeting in Austin and spending a few years long distance, Brooke and Andrew eventually landed in Chicago to begin their life together. Brooke works for the Neat Method and Andrew works for Ora Interactive. Both from the Chicagoland area, they knew they wanted a Chicago wedding that was unique to their personalities but of course, FUN!

As guests entered Morgan Manufacturing they were greeted with welcome refreshments on a custom (American flag) table to kick off the 4th of July weekend. A “Welcome” floral ring (designed by Sheri) was suspended over the table. We served cucumber water, basil infused lemonade and, St. Germain Fizz (the bride’s favorite cocktail). If guests wanted to hydrate before the long night ahead, we had beautiful custom mini water bottles. One of our favorite décor elements from this wedding was the ceremony in the round. We loved creating this for Brooke and Andrew as it felt like every single guest was a part of the ceremony. It was intimate and inviting.

Brooke carried a hand tied bouquet filled with rich pink peonies, ranunculus, garden roses and textural botanicals designed by Revel Decor. Her bridesmaids complimented by carrying bouquets filled with rich greenery and pops of vibrant floral. Andrew matched his bride with a hot pink ranunculus, which looked dashing against his navy tux.

A trio of magnificent suspended green chandeliers hung from the ceiling with bold botanicals and pops of bright floral. The dining tables complimented the overhead installation with garlands of organic and wild smilax and bright bold peonies, ranunculus, and roses. We completed the look with ambient candles in mixed metals and low lush floral. We had some fun with the photo booth and Revel designed a backdrop of café lights complimented by another floral ring stating “Cheers!”

Brooke and her Mom added so many unique personal touches for the wedding from the guest book cards and signature drink signage, to the escort card frames and who can forget those marvelous suspended rings throughout the venue.

I had the pleasure of working with the most beautiful couple, inside and out, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the “dream team” of event professionals we put together for Brooke and Andrew. Hard to believe it’s almost been one year! Congrats B&A!

Holiday Party season is upon us, what is the hottest trend for Holiday Parties?

Our clients this year are embracing classic holiday elements with customized details, and finding ways to elevate the guest experience at their events. We are seeing a lot of traditional winter greens and beautiful white and peach amaryllis, along with metallic touches in gold and copper. This traditional landscape offers so many opportunities for customizing your event based on elements such as venue, color palette, and budget.

What is your favorite flower and why?

My favorite flowers change with the seasons! I look forward to the winter months and enjoying the beautiful bulb flowers in their prime: amaryllis, tulips, and hyacinth are among my favorites. Moving into the spring blooming lilacs and lily of the valley take center stage, until the summer bounty rolls in with peonies and stunning dahlias. The fall brings its own floral show with hydrangea taking a turn towards antiquing and using rich autumnal foliage like oak leaves and bittersweet vine. It’s far too hard to pick just one!

Pinspotting centerpieces – why is this a must-have for your clients?

“Lighting changes everything” is such bold statement, but it is so true. Although our clients don’t often have the opportunity to be in the room before we “flip the switch” there is no change that is more dramatic than when the house lights go down, the designed lighting is focused and the sun is setting. Pin spotting in particular takes a beautiful centerpiece design and amplifies and enhances it while the ambient light changes throughout the evening. Pin spotting allows your guests to enjoy the intricate personality in the centerpieces you have selected and the blooms within. Lastly, it adds depth and texture to the room so when your fabulous photographer captures the “room shot” it doesn’t fall flat.

What colors, themes, textures are popping for a 2016 Winter or Spring wedding?

We are seeing a lot of garden-inspired, foliage filled designs for the spring, and we could not be more excited about it! The designs we are working on have so much personality and movement, and give an opportunity for the floral elements to be a bold highlight between the beautiful green foliage.

What is your favorite tourist attraction in Chicago?

Anytime a friend comes to Chicago for the first time I take them on an architectural boat tour. I learn something new every time, and there’s no better way to see so much of the city in such a short time.

Stephanie & Chris, Morgan Manufacturing

It was an honor to help plan Stephanie and Chris’ April Wedding last year. Stephanie and I have known each other for years as she used to be the events coordinator at the Chicago History Museum while I was working at Food For Thought.  Together, we planned countless weddings and became fast friends.  When she got engaged to Chris, needless to say, I was ecstatic.  Stephanie has impeccable taste and after choosing Morgan Manufacturing for her wedding venue, I knew this was going to be an incredible wedding weekend.

Food was one of the most important parts of the wedding planning process to them since they had traveled all over the world (and would soon be living in China) so we wanted to create a menu that was a reflection of their travels but also unique and fun for their guests.  Food For Thought designed Stephanie and Chris’ worldly menu that consisted of a Dim Sum Station with bahn mi’s, shu mai and pot stickers served in mini bamboo plates with chop sticks and accompaniments, a South American Station with skewers, mini chorizo sandwiches, rice and beans and plantain chips served on a black griddle top and a Middle Eastern Station with shawarma, gyros, gnocchi and a traditional Greek salad.  We ended the evening with mini Chicago style hot dogs and fried cheese curds (thanks to Chris’ alma mater), Madison, Wisconsin style….with Tiger Sauce.   Chris also flew in Milkbar (the bride’s favorite bakery in New York City) to surprise her with her wedding cake and cake truffles.  Stephanie was so surprised and loved it!

Revel Décor provided a gorgeous landscape of botanical based floral that was seasonal and organic – exactly what Stephanie had envisioned for her wedding day.  Stephanie carried a lush white bouquet with herb elements and black ”berry” accents (navy centered anemones and black seeded eucalyptus).  The bridesmaids wore varying shades of grey and held red anemones and red ranunculous.  They looked amazing all put together!

The ceremony was held inside Morgan Manufacturing and Revel hung a cluster of natural Manzanita branches showcasing draped greenery that hung behind the couple. We lined the aisle with pedestals and candles adding a glow to the walkway.   We had three looks for the reception design each on wooden rectangle dining tables.  One table had a greenery garland with botanical elements, votive candles and mixed metal candle holders.  The second look had a collection of candles and botanical elements that included lisianthus, anemones, white roses, black berries and greenery.  The third design had a knotted drift wood piece on the dining table with succulents, airplants and white floral finished with an ambient glow from the candles.  The reception looked stunning and we finished the look by hanging a large Edison bulb chandelier over the dance floor. The room looked amazing!  Amanda Hein captured this day beautifully while the Gold Coast All Stars kept the dance floor packed all night!

Stephanie and Chris met in graduate school at Northwestern.  They are two of the funniest people I know and they were always making each other laugh.  We had the best time together but more importantly I was honored to be a part of a dear friend of mine’s wedding.   Stephanie and Chris are a perfect match and I am so excited to see where life takes them.  For now, they are beginning their life as a married couple in China.

DeAwna’s Fundraiser, Floating World Gallery

I had the absolute pleasure of co-hosting a fundraiser a few weeks ago, for a dear friend of ours, DeAwna McGinley. DeAwna is an extremely talented wedding and event photographer in Chicago and was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Kelly, owner of Clementine Custom Events and Emily, Event Manager and Wedding Coordinator at Bon Appetit Catering at the Art Institute of Chicago and I helped to coordinate the incredible event with the help of so many dear friends and fellow vendors:

DeAwna was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma last year and underwent a bilateral mastectomy inDecember. Due to her invasive surgeries and extensive chemo treatments following the procedure, DeAwna had to deal with the significant loss of income, as she is unable to shoot weddings for 2013. DeAwna was looking forward to an incredible wedding season ahead and this was a major set back for her. We wanted to do something special for her, as service providers in this industry, we make our living by booking services for our clients.

Together, with the incredible team of vendors above (and my brothers and husband for bartending), we hosted a beautiful soiree at the Floating World Gallery in DeAwna’s honor. We had over 100 guests come to celebrate DeAwna’s strength and determination. Rebecca Marie capture beautiful moments of the fundraiser and we are so thankful to have these memories. Words cannot begin to describe the incrediblesupport and donations we received from so many clients, vendors, friends and family and we had such a successful event for DeAwna. We raised more than we could have dreamed of, and for that we are truly grateful. We love you DeAwna!
