Meg & Dave, The Field Museum

I met Meg and Dave two years before his and her wedding date and I still can’t believe how fast the time flew!  Meg and Dave live in Ann Arbor and when they came into town for the planning meetings, we would not only get much done in that short time, but we would talk and laugh for hours.  Meg and Dave are two of the sweetest, most loving friends I know and I was so fortunate to have been a part of their wedding.

Meg and Dave met on an archeological dig in Pompeii….need I say more?  The two of them started dating when they returned to the states and were engaged a few years later.  They knew they wanted a unique Chicago wedding and after a few venue tours, we walked into the Field Museum and they both fell in love – not only because of the beautiful architecture and iconic history this museum has, but it truly captured who they are as a couple.

We had an incredible design team who transformed Stanley Field Hall into a stunning reception site.  Jesse Deckard @ Event Creative gave the room an intimate feel with French Regency style lounge furniture, vibrant lighting and cascading colorful orchids.  The ceremony was held inside, as it was a little too cold to be outside on the northeast terrace but it was magnificent none the less.  Meg made her grand entrance from the south dome stairs with her brother during her processional and guests enjoyed fantastic food by Food For Thought during the reception and danced non-stop, thanks to Déjà vu.

Gina & Max, The Trump Hotel

I had so much fun getting to know Gina and Max throughout the wedding planning process.  Gina and Max met in college and had been together for over ten years.  It was important that their Chicago wedding was personal and representative of who they are as a couple. Tom Maluga (their Officiant) helped them write the entire ceremony and they each wrote their own vows.  The ceremony was held at Our Lady of Pompeii, a very meaningful church to both Max and Gina.   We booked Tammy Leathem of Leathem Photography because I knew Gina and Max would love her work and of course, her incredibly upbeat personality.  Speaking of upbeat personalities – Becca Kaufman Orchestra could not have been more perfect for this couple and their guests.  Gina is originally from St. Louis so we worked with Milestone Pro videography and they were fantastic! Jesse at Event Creative designed a stunning reception at The Trump Hotel.  We draped the doors leading into the ballroom with a gunmetal twist for a dramatic entrance. Pink and white orchids and green hydrangeas submerged and cascading created a vibrant and glamorous feel to the room.    Guests enjoyed the Shutterbooth so much that the props were worn on the dance floor all night!  Gina even wore a custom cowboy hat veil and boots for her introduction with Max…and I don’t think those ever left the dance floor.  We had a blast!

Annie & Ian, River East Art Center

Annie was in the middle of her residency while we planned her wedding and she knew exactly what she wanted – which always helps when it comes to a limited schedule!   Annie and Ian had an interfaith ceremony at Holy Family Church, one of my favorite churches in Chicago.   Dolce Strings provided the wedding ceremony music and I always love working with them. Miraculously, we missed the storm that strolled through the city, as we were in the middle of the ceremony. Annie and Ian took their photos prior to and you can’t even tell there was a storm in Heather’s beautiful photos!

Guests were then able to enjoy cocktails outside on the terrace of the River East Art Center with music by Spanish Guitarist, David Chiriboga and hors d’oeuvre from Blue Plate Catering. Renee Price, Senior Consultant for Kehoe Designs, designed a stunning reception .  We used lucite versaille chairs, gunmetal twist linens and eggplant lamour napkins.  The tables were decorated beautifully with clear glass vases of varying heights and sizes, cascading mokara and dendrobium orchids and lush purple hydrangeas. Surrounding the vibrant floral were dozens of floating candles and votives. David Young of  Entourage of Ken Arlen Music, kept the dance floor packed the entire night.  It was a beautiful wedding and reception and I am so glad Heather Parker was there to capture it all!

Whitney & Eric, The Art Institute of Chicago’s Modern Wing

Whitney and Eric’s November wedding was full of laughter, wonderful family and friends, hilarious toasts and stories and a stunning setting.  I will never forget how much fun I had planning their Wedding at The Art Institute of Chicago’s Modern Wing.   Whitney and Eric met working together on Michigan Avenue and knew they wanted a city wedding.   The Modern Wing a very special place for Whitney and her family as her mother was a volunteer docent there for over 25 years.

Whitney had an impeccable sense of style and knew she wanted a classic wedding with a rustic and earthy feel to reflect her and Eric’s love of the outdoors.  Jessica at Botanicals took Whitney’s vision and produced a gorgeous ceremony and reception setting.   The ceremony aisle in Griffin Court was lined with large paper lanterns that illuminated as Whitney walked down with her parents.  The tables in Terzo Piano were set with moss runners lined with mason jars, mercury glass, organic seasonal floral and French café lights strung across the dance floor. It felt as though we were outside in a garden café in Paris; absolutely breathtaking. Whitney and Eric made their own table numbers from chalkboard painted wine bottles, photos of them from childhood decorated the dining tables and Whitney’s mother made her wedding cake.   Every detail enhanced the overall look and feel of their wedding and captured the beautiful couple Whitney and Eric are.   Entourage kept the dance floor packed all night long and Peter Thompson Photography captured every moment.  We had an incredible team of vendors, a perfect wedding day and Whitney and Eric’s Wedding was the best way to end our 2011 Wedding Season!

Kathryn & Zach, Harold Washington Library

I had the pleasure of coordinating a friend’s wedding this past May. The groom, Zach, and I have known each other since the 6th grade and when his fiancé called me about their wedding, I was ecstatic. When Kathryn and I met to discuss her wedding I knew immediately we would become friends. We had a blast chatting about her ideas and visions for her wedding day.

The planning began immediately and Kathryn and Zach selected Harold Washington Library for their venue. We then booked Deja Vu Band, Tammy Leathem of Leathem Photography and Fleur Couture to handle their floral and décor. Although we knew the G8-NATO Summit was taking place in Chicago that weekend, we weren’t informed until February that the Library would be used for Federal Government purposes. Our invitations were printed, Save the Dates had been sent and all vendors were booked, so I knew we had a challenge ahead of us. I immediately contacted everyone in my network, the City of Chicago and all of our vendors to inform them of the situation and prepare them for a back up plan. Nothing was going to stop this wedding from happening – not even NATO!

We ended up having a fantastic wedding weekend! We started at Osteria Via Stato for their rehearsal dinner with family and close friends (and an awesome groom’s cake – thanks to Amy Beck Cake Design). On Saturday, Kathryn and Zach had their first look at the park outside the Sofitel. After photos around Chicago and staying clear of the protests, Kathryn and Zach were married at St. James in Lincoln Park. The reception at Harold Washington Library was stunning! Deja Vu kept the dance floor packed all night long and Blue Plate catered an exquisite meal for the guests. We are so fortunate to Harold Washington Library for their support and all the vendors involved given the circumstances with NATO. Kathryn and Zach had an unforgettable wedding weekend!

Megan & Stephan, Private Residence

I find that it’s pretty easy to become friends with my clients. When you spend month after month together, planning their dream day over glasses of wine and laughter, a bond is always formed. This is what happened with Megan and Stephen and I this past year. This darling couple had a clear vision for their wedding day and it included a reception at Megan’s childhood home, surrounded by family.

Megan & Stephen’s relaxed elegance was seen throughout their wedding day. One of my favorite photos of the day was of Megan & Stephen presenting flowers to the Blessed Mother. It’s a picture perfect moment. After a beautiful ceremony at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, the guests boarded a trolley that transported them to the home reception. They were greeted with cocktails, passed appetizers, and a solo pianist. While the wedding party took some photos around Naperville, guests were invited to play lawn games and mingle throughout the main level of the home, deck and tented area. Megan, Stephen and the wedding party arrived at the home and Twin Strings began playing. Then the main course food stations opened for everyone’s enjoyment. The evening continued with speeches from family members, scrumptious pie dessert, and a DJ. What a beautiful day for my new friends!

Kristi & Jon, Adler Planetarium

The moment I met Kristi, I knew we would be friends for life. And we are. Not only because we both share a love of wine, but because I felt like I was talking to one of my best friends from childhood during our initial meeting. Kristi is the sweetest girl I know; she has the most energetic and outgoing personality and makes everyone feel like a close friend. I knew we were going to have a blast planning her wedding for the next year.

Kristi and Jon walked into the Adler Planetarium and fell in love; we knew that was the place for them to have the reception. Kristi is modern and tres chic, but simple and classic; we knew we had the perfect setting for her wedding reception. I will never forget walking into Blumen Design, for Kristi’s floral sample and she screamed when she saw her floral design – with excitement! Amy and I still laugh about that to this day; she was just so overjoyed with everything and that made the planning process so much fun, for everyone involved.

Kristi and Jon’s wedding day was picture perfect. She looked exquisite in her Saison Blanche Couture bridal gown and her bridesmaids looked gorgeous and cheerful in their bright yellow dresses with hot pink bouquets. Her reception was stunning – black linens and chairs, hot pink and yellow floral and pink up lights – incredible against the city skyline. There was not a dry eye in the room as their best friends and family talked about Kristi and Jon during their reception. It was an honor to be a part of such a beautiful wedding for this beautiful couple, inside and out (and now friends for life!) Thanks Kristi and Jon!
