Morgan Manufacturing, Brooke & Andrew

Planning Brooke and Andrew’s wedding was one of the highlights of my career. I knew the moment Brooke and her mom called, that we were going to have so much fun together…and be lifelong friends. Brooke is one of the most sincere women I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. With Brooke’s impeccable sense of style and (her mom) Sheri’s flawless taste in finding the perfect details to tie everything together, we created a magical experience for their guests.

After meeting in Austin and spending a few years long distance, Brooke and Andrew eventually landed in Chicago to begin their life together. Brooke works for the Neat Method and Andrew works for Ora Interactive. Both from the Chicagoland area, they knew they wanted a Chicago wedding that was unique to their personalities but of course, FUN!

As guests entered Morgan Manufacturing they were greeted with welcome refreshments on a custom (American flag) table to kick off the 4th of July weekend. A “Welcome” floral ring (designed by Sheri) was suspended over the table. We served cucumber water, basil infused lemonade and, St. Germain Fizz (the bride’s favorite cocktail). If guests wanted to hydrate before the long night ahead, we had beautiful custom mini water bottles. One of our favorite décor elements from this wedding was the ceremony in the round. We loved creating this for Brooke and Andrew as it felt like every single guest was a part of the ceremony. It was intimate and inviting.

Brooke carried a hand tied bouquet filled with rich pink peonies, ranunculus, garden roses and textural botanicals designed by Revel Decor. Her bridesmaids complimented by carrying bouquets filled with rich greenery and pops of vibrant floral. Andrew matched his bride with a hot pink ranunculus, which looked dashing against his navy tux.

A trio of magnificent suspended green chandeliers hung from the ceiling with bold botanicals and pops of bright floral. The dining tables complimented the overhead installation with garlands of organic and wild smilax and bright bold peonies, ranunculus, and roses. We completed the look with ambient candles in mixed metals and low lush floral. We had some fun with the photo booth and Revel designed a backdrop of café lights complimented by another floral ring stating “Cheers!”

Brooke and her Mom added so many unique personal touches for the wedding from the guest book cards and signature drink signage, to the escort card frames and who can forget those marvelous suspended rings throughout the venue.

I had the pleasure of working with the most beautiful couple, inside and out, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the “dream team” of event professionals we put together for Brooke and Andrew. Hard to believe it’s almost been one year! Congrats B&A!

Grace & Romance at the Waldorf Astoria, Lauren & Simon

Lauren and her mom are the most amazing mother & daughter team and I thoroughly enjoyed helping them coordinate all of the final details for Lauren & Simon’s Spring wedding at the Waldorf Astoria. They found a wonderful team of event professionals to help bring the day’s vision to life and even though the weather did not cooperate with us, it was the loveliest celebration.

Lauren is the epitome of grace and she was very calm while getting ready with her bridesmaids on her wedding day. I could tell she was excited to finally see Simon and they enjoyed their photo session with Molly from Vrai Photo in the iconic lobby at the hotel. I can’t get over these photos!

Guests were welcomed to the ballroom for the ceremony and enjoyed a lively cocktail hour in the salon while the Waldorf Astoria, Natural Beauties Floral, and Standing Room Only Orchestra flipped the room. We fell in love with the tall, modern, chic design of the white delphinium flourishing out of the glass vase. Simply stunning and so unique!

Guests found themselves back in the ballroom for dinner and it was quite the romantic setting with candlelight and the fabulous centerpieces. They enjoyed their meal of either seared sable fish or herb crusted filet and the dessert of hazelnut cake with salted caramel mousse. How decadent! It was then time for some special dances and then the band had the dance floor packed the entire night.

Congratulations, Lauren & Simon! I hope this first year of marriage has been a dream come true with more love and laughter ahead of you!

Katy & Karl, The Modern Wing @ The Art Institute of Chicago

Katy and Karl are two of the sweetest people I know.  I was in awe of how calm and collected Katy was throughout the entire process, especially on her wedding day.  Katy is beautiful inside and out and it was my absolute pleasure getting to work with her and her wonderful family through the wedding planning process.  Katy and Karl fell in love with the Modern Wing at the Art Institute and we had so much fun bringing her wedding vision to life with the help of Revel Décor.  Greenlight kept the dance floor packed all night long (not surprised!) and Katy looked flawless.

Katy carried a loosely tied bouquet of ivory and blush pink floral accented with dark burgundy and finished with pale green foliage.  The bridesmaids, wearing navy blue, carried ivory and blush bouquets that complimented Katy.  Guests entered Terzo Piano for the ceremony and were greeted with a dramatic drape installation and cascading floral along the west windows that overlooked the city.  Katy and the bridal party walked down a custom fabric aisle runner. Greenlight’s quartet played throughout the ceremony, and we surprised guests with the bride’s uncle’s choir who sang a few songs during and ended the ceremony with, “Oh Happy Day!” Guests are still talking about the performance that started the evening on such a high.  After cocktail hour on Bluhm Terrace overlooking the city, guests were escorted downstairs to Griffin Court for dinner.  Greenlight began playing and guests quickly joined the dance floor and started dancing.  It was the perfect way to kick off the evening!

Revel designed long rectangle tables with a “floating garland” of pale and dark green foliage, white floral and pops of suspended greenery.  The square tables hosted beautiful collections of succulents, foliage and gold mercury candlelight.  The round tables were adorned with romantic ivory, pale blush pink blossoms, rich burgundy accents and trailing greenery.  We had two lounge vignettes set up on each side of Griffin Court, Hampton style bars and free standing mirrored menus.  This was the perfect completion to the garden inspired party.

Guests enjoyed a crispy artichoke and Brussels sprout salad with watermelon gazpacho.  Following the duet first course, guests were served a choice of beef tenderloin or grilled salmon.  Guests finished the meal with a tray of sweets on every table that included house made peanut butter cups, cheesecake lollipops, fruit tarts and truffles.  Vrai and One Fine Day were there with us from the rehearsal dinner on Friday until the end of the wedding night.  They captured it all!  Congrats Katy and Karl!

Samantha & Stephen, The Art Institute of Chicago

I had the absolute pleasure of planning Samantha’s brother’s wedding in May of 2012.  When her mother called to tell me her daughter was engaged, I was thrilled!!  I adore this family and was so excited to begin the planning for Samantha and Stephen’s wedding.

Samantha and Stephen reside in Michigan but getting married in Chicago was very important to her, as this was where she grew up. The Art Institute held a very special place in their hearts, due to Stephen being an artist.  They fell in love with the Modern Wing and decided to have their ceremony on Bluhm Terrace and the reception in Griffin Court.

The weekend began with a Welcome Party at Café Ba Ba Reeba, a favorite restaurant of the bride’s family.  The next day, the bridesmaids enjoyed a morning of manicures, while the groom and groomsmen enjoyed hot shaves.  After the rehearsal on Friday, guests were invited to a Shabbat Dinner at the Fairmont Hotel.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful fall day for Samantha and Stephen’s Wedding.  Samantha and Stephen spent the day taking photos around Chicago prior to the ceremony. Guests arrived just as the sun was setting, and we began the beautiful ceremony on Bluhm Terrace.

Renee Price, Senior Designer with Kehoe Designs, designed the wedding décor for Samantha and Stephen.  Samantha carried a single arching stem of white phalaenopsis orchid blooms while her bridesmaids carries a single calla lilies finished with a navy ribbon to match their dresses.  The ceremony aisle was adorned with white boxes that held square glass vases with submerged calla lilies and accented succulents.    The rustic wood chuppah had soft sheer fabric embellishments on the sides and the families’ tallit hung from the top. Magnificent Milestones created a perfect entrance statement sign that read, “Pick a Seat, Not a Side.”

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvre on Bluhm Terrace and in Terzo Piano before making their way downstairs to Griffin Court for dinner and dancing.  Samantha and Stephen danced to “Something Beautiful”.  After cutting their wedding cake, guests enjoyed a seasonal apple salad for their first course.  Filet and chicken were served for dinner followed by CAKE Chicago‘s Wedding Cake and a selection of petite sweets from Bon AppetitThe Party Faithful kept the dance floor packed all night while Vrai Photography and Smiling Toad captured every moment.  Samantha and Stephen are two of the sweetest people, and I am lucky to call them friends of mine today.   Congrats you two!

Jennifer & John, The Field Museum

One of the many highlights of last year was planning Jennifer and John’s wedding. Jennifer and John met at Vanderbilt University and started dating soon after they graduated. Jennifer is originally from Dallas and John is from Atlanta and they currently live in Houston together. You may be wondering why this adorable couple chose to get married in Chicago. They lived here together for a year while John attended law school and both fell in love with the city. They wanted a summer wedding and knew Chicago would be the perfect destination for their guests who were all traveling from afar.

Each time Jennifer and her Mom came to Chicago – we would make the most of our time with the planning and meeting their vendors. I will never forget spending time together while they were in town; we had a blast! Jennifer and John fell in love with the Field Museum; it was a place they visited often while living here and a perfect way for their guests to experience one of the cities’ most iconic venues.

Heffernan Morgan and Frost worked their magic on creating the most gorgeous look outside on the terrace for their ceremony and inside Stanley Field Hall for the reception. We adorned the aisle with fresh rose petals and Jennifer and John were married under a wrought iron arbor decorated with greenery and ivory and peach blooms. We also hung a crystal chandelier that added a touch of glam for this outdoor setting. Cocktails took place on the north terrace overlooking the city. We set up the Escort Cards on a bed of peach and blush blooms in mirrored boxes for guests to take and find their seats. Guest tables were decorated with ivory and green hydrangeas, peach spray roses, open blush garden roses, café au lait dahlias, garden stock and coral roses. We used mercury glass votives, footed glass bowls, varying candlesticks and etched clear glass. We lit each table and the entire Hall with ambient lighting that gave the room a warm glow as the sun went down. Jennifer and John were introduced into the reception and cut their incredible cake from Amy Beck and John was surprised by Jennifer’s thoughtful groom’s cake, which was a Game of Thrones theme. He loved it! The Gentleman of Leisure kept the entire dance floor packed all night and Vrai captured every moment. Before departing in a classic Rolls Royce, Jennifer and John exited their reception by walking down the south steps as guests tossed fresh rose petals for them. We had an unforgettable wedding weekend for Jennifer and John!

Lauren & Bryan, Spring Lake, Michigan

Since it happens to be my two year wedding anniversary this month, I thought it would be nice to share mine!

As a wedding planner in Chicago, planning my destination wedding in Spring Lake, Michigan seemed like a breeze, at first. I absolutely love my job as a wedding planner and I am so blessed to be able to do this for so many beautiful brides, who I become dear friends with throughout the process. However, planning a wedding for myself, was not easy. I was engaged for two years but didn’t start the planning process until a year out. That gave me time to really think about what I wanted to do, how I wanted to do it, and focus on my companies’ first year in this business.

I am so fortunate to be able to work with incredible vendors in Chicago and I learned very quickly, that I had to start from scratch to find vendors in Michigan. After a few months of research, I was so fortunate to have found the most amazing vendors to work with. On the other hand, I am extremely lucky that they chose to work with me! It’s not easy working for someone who does what you do. I have the utmost respect for anyone in this industry and that made me enjoy the process even more. I will be life long friends with all of my vendors.

Needless to say, I realized I needed some additional help. There was no way I could do this all on my own….and actually enjoy my wedding weekend. I was able to find an incredible planner who came in and pulled everything together for me. Without her, I could have never been able to relax and enjoy the wedding weekend. A few of my other vendors were from Chicago: Deja Vu Band, managed by my sister, Jen Knuepfer, Vrai Photography, I Do Films and HDO Tent. To spend a weekend as a bride with these vendors, whom I have worked with throughout the past few years, was just a blast!

I knew I wanted something different for our Michigan wedding. I see the most beautiful weddings in Chicago and I get to be a part of so many wonderful moments and memories and I knew that was what I wanted for Bryan and myself. Spring Lake is a dear place to us and our families. My Dad enjoyed his summers here growing up, and my family spent summers and weekend visits together here. It is a place we will be coming to for many years to come. I knew since I was a little girl, I wanted to have my wedding in Spring Lake; the most beautiful place on earth to me.

Bryan and I love being near the water, love boating and all the activities that come with it. We also love warm weather and spending time outside. I knew I wanted a nautical feel, to reflect the place we were at, but also a comfortable, casual, warm and intimate setting. I absolutely love lanterns, candle light, hydrangeas and everything navy! Since flowers don’t come in navy, we kept them light and natural and used the navy in other accents. I also wanted the floral to look as though it was picked from our garden; blue and clear hanging mason jars filled with wild flowers throughout the ceremony and reception provided the natural feel I was looking for. I mixed and matched patterns and designs, to create a nautical, but elegant look.

Food was extremely important to me as well and I really wanted the farm to table presentation and quality with local ingredients. Our caterer presented the most beautiful food that was in season, locally grown and absolutely delicious! Of course, we had to end the meal with blueberry and peach pie (from Crane’s – a local bakery) – a perfect way to satisfy the sweet tooth.

Our bridesmaids arrived by boat, and walked off the dock while the groomsmen lined up at the altar from another side of the yard. It was breathtaking. I walked down the steps from our house on a small hill, facing the lake. It was the most surreal moment walking down that aisle. All I could think was “this is actually happening!” It was the greatest feeling in the world.

Cocktail hour was next to the ceremony site, overlooking the small beach and the waterfront. The bridal party went on a boat ride immediately following the ceremony, while guests sipped “Lake Breezes” in Mason Jars, munched on passed hors d’oeuvres and enjoyed a fabulous cheese station, by “The Cheese Lady.” We were then invited up to the dinner tent by the harmonious sounds of a Bag Piper, which got guests moving! The dinner tent was stunning; Hanging lanterns, beautiful floral, soft lighting and just an overall romantic and intimate feeling.

My grandmother passed away days before our wedding. I was very close with her and was a blessing to have my entire family with me, to celebrate her and we felt her presence all weekend long. It was a very emotional week leading up to it, and of course the wedding day was filled with tears and laughter; but all joyful. It down poured all morning – probably one of the biggest rain falls I have seen in Michigan! Even though my entire wedding was outside, somehow it cleared up an hour before the ceremony and we were able to do everything, just the way it was planned. She was my Angel in the Outfield.

I will always remember this day; not only because of the beautiful details and the hard work the vendors put into the production, but because we were so fortunate to have all of our family and friends travel to Michigan to celebrate with us. My parents worked so hard to create the perfect wedding for us and I am truly grateful for their support. Bryan and I didn’t leave the dance floor all night (we owe that to our band) and to my surprise we ended the night with a firework show! It was truly magnificent and now I know how all of my brides feel on their wedding day, loved and so blessed. It was magical!

Kate & Andrew, Adler Planetarium

I met Kate and Andrew in the fall of 2011 and I knew the moment we started talking on the phone, we would get along great. I was so excited to start the planning process with them! Kate is one of my close friends today and I am so lucky to have been a part of their wedding planning.

Kate and Andrew had dated for five years before he popped the question. Kate is originally from Minnesota and Andrew is from the Northern Suburbs of Chicago. With guests coming in from around the country, they knew they wanted a memorable Chicago location for their wedding and reception. After only a few venue visits, they fell in love with the Adler Planetarium and the rest of the planning began!

I was thrilled when they chose Kristina Carter with Vrai Photography and I Do Films Videography to shoot their wedding weekend. Jessica at Botanicals created a beautiful setting in Galileo’s. We suspended a collection of colorful lanterns over the dance floor, adorned every table with vibrant orchids, fresh stock and candles. Despite the uncertain weather forecast, we decided to have the ceremony outside on the Adler‘s northwest terrace. It was a little breezy but the guests were in awe of the incredible Chicago skyline and the picturesque views. The Bradley Young Orchestra kept the dance floor packed all night long. I will never forget how much fun Kate and Andrew were during the planning but even more so, on their wedding day. Enjoy!

Melissa & Zach, The Peninsula Hotel

In celebration of our recent Valentine’s Day (yes, I know I am a little behind), I wanted to share my best friend’s wedding with you. Enjoy!

As a wedding planner in Chicago, I knew coordinating my best friend’s wedding was going to be one of the best experiences I could have. I was able to spend this past year doing what I love most, with the friend I love most. More importantly, I was able to work with some of my favorite vendors in Chicago and I cannot thank them enough for creating such a perfect day for Melissa and Zach.

Melissa and Zach were engaged in March. We had originally planned for a June 2013 wedding; until Melissa realized she didn’t want to be engaged for over a year. What meant more to her was marrying Zach…not planning the wedding. That’s where I came in! The next five months were filled with meetings, tastings, samples, site visits, and dress fittings – all completed before Melissa (who is a second grade teacher), started school again in August.

Melissa and Zach met here in Chicago, and live in River North. They knew they wanted a city wedding and a convenient location for their out of town guests. They chose The Peninsula Hotel, which offered a beautiful terrace for their (two hour) cocktail reception and a stunning ballroom that was gorgeous at night. We booked Kristina Carter with Vrai Photography right away, and Ray Pryor with Emotia for videography. Both vendors I work with all the time, who I knew would capture every precious moment of their wedding day.

The moment Melissa tried on the Vera Wang strapless Gemma gown, we knew she had chosen the one. With a dusty taupe sash, organza blossom hem and a tissue French tulle, we knew she would be a knock out….and of course, she was. It was edgy but elegant and Melissa wore that dress so well. I will never forget the moment when she walked down that aisle – she was exquisite (and I was balling).

Nicole Pandola, owner of Fleur Couture created gorgeous centerpieces that matched Melissa’s modern and contemporary style with a classic and traditional feel.  We used hydrangeas, callas and orchids and surrounded each table with dozens of candles at varying heights to capture the romance and elegance of the day.

Deja Vu rocked out from the start of the reception to the last hour of the evening and guests enjoyed every minute.  Zach and Melissa have a love of country music and Déjà vu learned several songs as a surprise to the couple.  Michelle, the bride’s only sister and Matron of Honor, had the best speech I have ever heard.  She wrote and rapped the entire song to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme, and got the crowd cheering and laughing so hard; it was incredible.

Melissa’s wedding to Zach was the highlight of my year. She was so humbled by the entire wedding planning experience and for that, I am truly grateful. She didn’t stress about the flowers, linens or chairs…she didn’t worry about the food, her hair or her walk down the aisle – the only thing she cared about was marrying her best friend. And that she did. Congratulations to my best friend; thank you for allowing me to play a part in the planning of your wedding and for reminding me everyday how lucky I am, to do what I do!

Kristi & Jon, Adler Planetarium

The moment I met Kristi, I knew we would be friends for life. And we are. Not only because we both share a love of wine, but because I felt like I was talking to one of my best friends from childhood during our initial meeting. Kristi is the sweetest girl I know; she has the most energetic and outgoing personality and makes everyone feel like a close friend. I knew we were going to have a blast planning her wedding for the next year.

Kristi and Jon walked into the Adler Planetarium and fell in love; we knew that was the place for them to have the reception. Kristi is modern and tres chic, but simple and classic; we knew we had the perfect setting for her wedding reception. I will never forget walking into Blumen Design, for Kristi’s floral sample and she screamed when she saw her floral design – with excitement! Amy and I still laugh about that to this day; she was just so overjoyed with everything and that made the planning process so much fun, for everyone involved.

Kristi and Jon’s wedding day was picture perfect. She looked exquisite in her Saison Blanche Couture bridal gown and her bridesmaids looked gorgeous and cheerful in their bright yellow dresses with hot pink bouquets. Her reception was stunning – black linens and chairs, hot pink and yellow floral and pink up lights – incredible against the city skyline. There was not a dry eye in the room as their best friends and family talked about Kristi and Jon during their reception. It was an honor to be a part of such a beautiful wedding for this beautiful couple, inside and out (and now friends for life!) Thanks Kristi and Jon!
