Classic Chicago Fairytale at The Drake, Molly & Angelo

I love when couples choose Chicago as their destination to get married. It has so much to offer for couples and guests! Molly and Angelo were exactly that couple that embraced the Chicago fairy-tale wedding. While they worked together in planning their wedding, they agreed that they needed someone to take over coordinating the final details and making sure they enjoyed their wedding day.

They chose to get ready at their hotel, The Drake, and it was the perfect backdrop for time well spent with family and some stunning photos by Nick Gerber from Orange 2 Photography. I absolutely loved Molly’s dress – it was a little unexpected and the perfect modern twist to the fairy-tale. Speaking of which…you can’t even tell, but in the photos of the wedding party on La Salle Street, I’m behind Molly and holding her dress up out of the freshly laid tar on the street. That’s what we do to help get the perfect photo!

Molly & Angelo chose to get married at Old St. Pat’s with Msgr. Velo serving as their priest. It was the classic Catholic ceremony with many nods to their families and heritage. After they said their vows and exchanged their rings, we all headed back to The Drake for the reception. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the French Room (my favorite) and I loved the detail of the life size paintings that Molly & Angelo displayed of the church and the hotel. For dinner, we had guests move to the Grand Ballroom and one of the larger king’s table we’ve had. I loved that Molly chose navy blue linens for the room, because it was a beautiful contrast to the gorgeous centerpieces provided by Ramsey at Ashland Addison Florist.

A favorite moment of mine occurred during dinner. Guests were enjoying their entrees of Chicken or the infamous Crab Cakes and Angelo’s uncle had requested to sing a song. I found out earlier that week that he had traveled to the wedding from Italy…but I found out earlier that night, that he is an opera singer. Wow!! It was a moment that gave me goosebumps to hear him sing a couple of opera songs to the audience. I must say that Chris Sarlas was the consummate professional in helping to pull off this surprise to the guests. His band also helped to ensure guests packed the dance floor the entire night. What a celebration! Congratulations Molly & Angelo!
